It's always good to have a backup of anything digital, and your G300 control system is no exception. It will back up your system for you, either automatically into the 'cloud' or manually, by creating a backup for your local system (ie, your computer's hard drive).
In your Dashboard, click the Setup tab, and then select Backup in the submenu as shown:
If you check the selection to "Backup my configuration on server", your G300 settings will be automatically backed up every day, with the data stored remotely. That means that even if something happens to your G300, you'll still have all your settings saved.
You can also create a backup file for your local computer by downloading it from the system to your hard drive. Click the Create Backup button to do this.
You can also back up your Z-Wave network, so in case you decide to make changes or there's a power outage, you'll be able to restore the recognized devices. If you choose to use local backup files instead of backups in the cloud, and need to ever restore your settings, it's recommended that you back up your Z-Wave network first by clicking the appropriate button as shown below.
To restore your setup from a backup file that's on your computer instead of in the cloud, click the box to Restore Z-Wave Network, and then use the Browse function to find and select your backup file from your hard drive. When you're ready to make the restoration, click Restore.
Finally, you can reset your G300 to its original factory settings, if you ever need to. Simply click the so-marked button and your G300 will return to its default settings.
In addition to making backups of your system, your G300 keeps a log of its activities. As with the backups, it's easiest and most secure to store the logs in the cloud, but you can also save the logs locally. To set the logging for your G300, click Setup and then the Logs submenu selection.
You'll be taken to a screen that lets you check the box to "Archive old logs on server" as well as other boxes, several which have been checked as factory defaults and that most users can leave that way.
If you prefer, you can also save your system's logs onto a USB flash drive. Insert the drive into the G300's USB port and then check the box to "Store logs on USB device".
Note: The USB drive is erased during this process -- make sure any data you have on the USB drive is saved elsewhere before using that drive for your backup log. The backup log onto USB from your system may take as long as 20 minutes.
